The next chapter

The tradition continues.

The Golden 8 Ball shaped Phoenix billiards for a generation. That spirit — the commitment to serious play, real community, and a room worth walking into — lives on at Metro Sportz Bar & Billiards. This is not a separate story. It is the same story, still being written.

David Lee returns

Same passion. Same standard. New room.

David Lee — the man who built the Golden 8 Ball into a Phoenix landmark — now runs Metro Sportz Bar & Billiards as General Manager. He brings the same uncompromising commitment to the game that made the original room legendary: real equipment, real competition, and a culture where players feel at home.

In 2024, David was inducted into the Arizona Billiard Hall of Fame — recognition for a lifetime of contributions to the game in this state. The honor belongs to the community as much as to the man. Every player who walked through those doors helped build what that induction represents.

A playful nod to history

Look for the 8-Ball Burger on the Metro Sportz menu. It is exactly what it sounds like — a direct, unapologetic tribute to the Golden 8 Ball legacy. Some traditions carry forward in trophies and hall-of-fame plaques. Others carry forward in a well-built burger named after the room that started it all.

The room

Built for players who know the difference.

Diamond tables

The gold standard in billiards

When touring professionals evaluate a room, the first thing they look for is the table brand. Diamond is the answer they want.

Littman LED lighting

Tournament-grade visibility

Purpose-built billiard lighting that eliminates shadow and glare — the same systems used in nationally televised events.

Simonis cloth

Professional playing surface

The cloth that defines serious play. Consistent speed, true roll, and the feel that competitive players demand.

"When pros travel, they look for Diamond tables. That's what we have here, and it's a big reason why players love coming to Metro Sportz Bar."

Robert Pamiroyan, Operations Manager

Competition & community

A room where serious players show up.

The Golden 8 Ball was never just about having tables. It was about who came to play and how high the standard ran. Metro Sportz carries that forward with structured league play, weekly tournaments, and a room where top regional talent competes regularly.

  • Champions League run by Todd Rowitz — Monday and Tuesday nights
  • 8-ball and 9-ball formats
  • 3-person and 5-person team divisions
  • Weekly tournaments open to all skill levels

Players who frequent the room

The caliber of a room is measured by who chooses to play there. Metro Sportz draws established competitors who expect professional-grade conditions and real competition.

  • Mitch Ellerman
  • Joven Bustamante
  • Nick DeLeon

Learn from a legend

Scott "The Freezer" Frost — private lessons at Metro Sportz.

Scott Frost is one of the greatest one-pocket players the game has ever produced. His nickname was earned at the table — a player known for freezing opponents out of games with suffocating positional control and strategic patience that few can match.

He now offers private lessons at Metro Sportz. This is a rare opportunity: world-class instruction from a player whose understanding of the game runs deeper than most people will ever encounter. Whether you are working on fundamentals or refining high-level strategy, time with Frost is time invested at the highest level the sport offers.
